So now it’s only been a couple of days since the purple and beautiful one left us all behind, I still can’t believe it really. This does seem much harder to take, I’ve pretty much been listening to his music all weekend and now it’s Monday morning. So I’ve got to post this cover of the Sinead O’Connor song, one of his most famous tracks sung by someone else besides himself. Nothing Compares 2 U was a number 1 hit single in this country at the time of release in 1990.
Aussie singer-songwriter Dan Kelly record his version in 2007 for various artists comp album of male singers singing songs performed by female artists, yes it’s an odd idea. I think if I remember rightly at the time someone at a record company wanted Tim Rogers and his band You Am I to do a Patti Smith track which never happen at all but they’re all these others. I do have to say Dan’s one is the best. The album was called No Man’s Woman which is a title of yet another Sinead O’Connor song which wasn’t even on that album. Kelly’s Nothing Compares To You is such a lovely cover with him playing ukulele, it’s so beautiful and wonderful. Do the lyrics now take on a new meaning?
