Cover Versions: Lou Reed’s Ocean + Hank Williams’ I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry by SQÜRL

Ocean:

I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry:

SQÜRL is New York film maker Jim Jarmusch‘s band that’s been around for a few years now and both these covers I’m posting here today are older recordings so nothing new! The other two guys in the band are Carter LoganShane Stoneback.

I think I’ll throw a link to the soundtrack they have done to his new-ish movie Paterson (2016) too which I’ve not seen but listen once, it’s much more mellow than those earlier recording. Also now you can buy the vinyl on Jack White’s Third Man records linked here.

Those two covers above are both are from a set a vinyl only limited edition EPs with color themes which were blue and green, you can find them somewhere I guess but they’re sold out. I love Jim’s movies and his band is just as cool and these two cover are a couple of my faves so I’m posting them here toady for my Thursday blog post for everyone, anyone who’s looking, listening today.

Original the song Ocean written by Lou Reed was first recorded by The Velvet Underground but pretty much at the time Reed quit the band and only official released in the 80’s or 90’s or something by the band, it was also the last track on Lou’s self-titled debut solo album back in 1972. Hank Williams’ I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry was original done by him in the late 1940’s too.

Can I also say Jim does look a bit like a squirrel too?

Another reason to do a post like this is I can look at a lot of photos of Squirrels!
