Wicked Songs: 10-Car Pile-Up, I Went Out Looking, Nothing To Lose by Digger & The Pussycats + Cover Versions: Make-Up’s Save Yourself, Supercharger’s Stab A Motherfucker by Digger & The Pussycats

So all these songs feature Gareth Liddiard. Continuing my cat a logging of everything relating to The Drones and Mr. Liddiard here on my blog. So today we are going all the way back to 2005 for a some what forgotten Melbourne duo called Digger & The Pussycats who Garry help out recording their debut album named Young Tight & AlrightDigger & The Pussycats are vocals, guitar and bass by Sam Agostino and vocals, drums and percussion by Andy Moore.

In the credits he’s “Expertly Assisted” to Loki Lockwood whatever that means? But plays, sings backing on three of Digger & The Pussycats originals and two cover on the album of 14 songs. Working thorough the track listing in order Gaz is playing keyboards on number three song called 10-Car Pile-Up then also on number eight song called I Went Out Looking. Backing vocals on number eleven song named Save Yourself and number thirteen song named Stab A Motherfucker both the covers before he picks up his guitar on the hidden and final track called Nothing To Lose.

Now the whole album is on Bandcamp for $5 too so fuck it, here’s the whole thing if you want more! Number two song is a wicked cool cover version of old blues guy Robert Johnson’s Stop Breaking Down which is my own personal fave on the whole album, even if GL is not on that one.

Now both this album and The Drones debut album Here Come The Lies were on small indie label at the time called Spooky Records but by 2005 The Drones had left the label behind but exiting the contact was a big problem at the time but if you don’t know the story I’m going to save it for some other time. Loki Lockwood did both the debut albums Digger & The Pussycats and The Drones and also when on to do the breakthrough second album for The Drones with the long-winded title off course: Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By. Amazingly to think both those albums where released in 2005.

Now because those covers are just a little unknown here’s the originals now, just for you. Well, more for me really but it’s all about sharing I guess? Not surprising both these bands are from the 90’s. Make-Up are American and from Washington D.C. and then Supercharger are English and from Leeds, both pretty obscure so prefect for my blog, hey?

Save Yourself by Make-Up

Sooprize Package For Mr. Mineo by Supercharger is what Stab A Motherfucker is real called, that’s just the chorus line not the song title.

So now if you need more old shit done by Mr. Liddiard? I’ve recently blogged about one of his first bands The Gutterville Splendour Six. The two now kind-of old RockWiz duets covers are Rolling Stones’ Wild Horses and The Saints’ Messin’ With Kid which that post includes when he wrote a song with Magic Dirt plus when Adalita joined The Drones live for a Bob Dylan cover. Other covers are The Drones’ version of Rowland S. Howard’s Crowned and him joining These Immortal Souls live to play Hyperspace at this link. So much more if you wanna dig around here on the blog but sorry to say I’m bored linking everything right now.

So I might to write about someone/thing else tomorrow. I hope whoever out there enjoys these thrown back tracks which evolved into the debut album by Digger & The Pussycats for Tuesday’s blog post?
