Song Lyric Sunday Theme: Comfort

Comfort Of Strangers by Beth Orton which is the title track from her 2006 album and here are the lyrics:

I know the stars that shine on me
Are brighter than you and I may ever be
I know there’s an answer to your question
But I don’t know that I could word it right
Say what you mean don’t tell it like it could be
I’m not sure, should I just say it out loud?
Say what you mean don’t tell it like it could be
Alright this time I’m gonna keep that in mind
One love is better than not enough
I’d rather have no love
Than messing with the wrong stuff
It’s just the comfort of strangers
Always the comfort of strangers…yeah yeah yeah
I know the sun that shines on me
On better terms than you and I may ever be
I know there’s an answer to the question
But I’m not sure that I should word it right
Say what you mean don’t tell it like it could be
Every time you’re gonna set me free
Say what you mean don’t tell it like it could be
Alright this time let’s take it right home to see
One love is better than not enough
I’d rather have no love
Than messing with the wrong stuff
It’s just the comfort of strangers
Always the comfort of strangers
Well some of those are like best friends
Best friends!
Ones that keep you coming round again

Beth in sepia-tone in the middle of nowhere!

So two posts for Sunday, lucky everyone and anyone looking! Once again from SLS it’s yet another all-time fave of mine but this album could be my least fave of all her stuff so if you dig it, please check out her other songs/albums. She worked with both M.Ward and Jim O’Rourke which you might know? On this Comfort Of Strangers album plus it’s great one for Sunday too, I do think? What do you think?

Cheers 🙂

  1. I really liked this one! I just added her to my list of artists to check out more. I also think you are right – this song is perfect for Sunday.

I’ve never really found comfort in strangers, but I can see the appeal. 🙂

I’ve wrote about Beth before a few times here on my blog:
      her debut album https://a1000mistakes.wordpress.com/2017/03/29/classic-albums-trailer-park-by-beth-orton/
      and her newest album
      https://a1000mistakes.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/my-new-music-kidsticks-by-beth-orton/
Both highly recommended if you need somewhere to start?
Yeah it’s got be my most Sundayish song, so far!
I did find it funny picking this one because we are all kind-of strangers blogging sharing music, get to know each other, under the theme this week comfort, you know what I mean?
      Anyway cheers again Helen!
