Well it’s hard being a liar
I don’t know who’s supposed to be on my mind
‘Cos I love my little darling
But I also love these women online
When I feel it really coming on strong
Yeah I know I really shouldn’t log on
But there’s this woman on the Internet
She sends me pictures of her beautiful eyes
And I never get the sense to tell my girl the truth
I got the sense to tell some beautiful lies
(Gonna love her with these beautiful eyes)
Well what’s the difference darling
Between my eyelids and a glowing white screen
When either way I’m thinking
Of the hottest barely legal age teens?
When I feel it really coming on strong
Yeah I know I really shouldn’t log on
Yeah there’s this woman on the Internet
She sends me pictures of her beautiful eyes
And I ain’t telling no-one ’bout the money I’ve sent
I don’t care if they’re just beautiful lies
Yeah there’s this woman on the Internet
Even if she’s some Nigerian guy
Yeah well you should read the poetry he speaks to me
I don’t care if they’re just beautiful lies
(Gonna love him with these beautiful lies)
True Lies by Alex Cameron is the middle track on the album Forced Witness, his second solo album from 2017. Maybe not my fave track from that album but it’s a totally great one.
This track words seems to be dealing with being unfaithful while using the internet. Cameron sings about whether it’s right or even better to fill his relationship with “beautiful lies” so keeping his significant other happy and not rather than be total honest and devastate them with his little ugly truth. Ignoring it or how to some people, making up a false reality can be comforting and make them happy too. It’s very clever songwriting and pure genius in this day and age. It was the first thing I did think of this week and seems somehow very perfect for the theme of “truth” on the internet with bloggers blogging and sharing lyrics and songs.
This is the newest track I’ve posted on SLS so far, only released late last year. The album was in my top ten of 2017, I can’t remember what number I gave it then but after a few days into Feb. and at the start of the second month of the year I think this album is my most played of 2018. I’ve included the full album just above, just if anyone would want more to listen too? Alex is an Aussie and did three albums with the band called Seekae and also lately had five songwriting credits on American rock band The Killers new album Wonderful Wonderful, after befriending lead singer Brandon Flower. I think he twitter something like: “I meet this Aussie singer-songwriter sleeping in his car in a Las Vegas car-park, check him out!” Which seems like a good spot to stop typing now!

Hope you all did enjoy it?
Cheers 🙂
Thanks for this intro.

Ah, the Internet. It’s such a fantastic tool, but also so very full of ugly truth. I loved how he admits it could be “some Nigerian guy” but that doesn’t seem to matter because you know, beautiful eyes are beautiful!? It gave me a little chuckle. The music seemed to be a sort of mash-up and I enjoyed it. Thanks so much for sharing!
