Right, so I haven’t wrote about any gigs since Golden Plains fest last month but I’ve been catching up on new albums in the last week or so! I’ve just got the album at the gig and not really listen to that but he was playing it all live and been listening, streaming the songs/singles released before the album. The record was out on the 6th and the show was the 7th. BTW the seventh was my happy b’day to me too! Last time I remember seeing a show on my b’day was my 16th, was with Kyuss and Metallica but most likely seen something on that day again but I forget right now?
Donny Benet looks like he should be in 80’s movie Weekend At Bernie’s or something like that so I guess that’s why his second album was called Weekend at Donny’s. This is Donny Benet’s third solo album, I think? But you might also have heard or seen him playing before as a side man to Jack Ladder, Kirin J Callinan and most recently Sarah Blasko.
Supports were Grievous Bodily Calm live band local band who I dig the last couple of tracks I catch, got to have more of a listen to them up now, couple of DJ’s before the main act of Donny. If you’ve never seen him live before, like me please go and see him he was so wicked great and totally entertaining performer! His shows for the rest of this month are: Apr 14 @ Howler Brunswick VIC, Apr 21 @ Black Bear Lodge Fortitude Valley QLD, Apr 27 @ Oxford Art Factory Darlinghurst NSW and Apr 28 @ Wollongong Uni Bar Wollongong, NSW. I’m going to be listening to his album a lot after this show but maybe a little too early to say anything but if you dig a bit of 80’s synth or 70’s disco throw back or both you’ll love The Don album, playing the full album live plus a few extra songs. Thank you Donny very much to coming back to Perth too!
The Don track listing:
1. Working Out
2. Love Online
3. You’re Too Good
4. Santorini
5. Reach The Top
6. Konichiwa
7. Night In Rome
8. Just Leave Him
Cheers 🙂
