Top Ten Tracks: Anthrax

So Anthrax are supporting Slayer so-called farewell Aussie tour and following on from last Tuesday’s my Slayer top ten tracks, I’ve got the fourth and final part of the big four metal acts of the 80’s. My fave Anthrax songs after off course, I did Megadeth and Metallica last year too. I think they would come fourth if I was to rate all the bands, it would be something like this: Megadeth would be top dog and first, Slayer close behind biting at the heals as second just for the basic fact both bands are so much more trash metal and stick to it like superglue so that makes Metallica third and then we are back to Anthrax again. How about you, who would you say where? Even so at fourth in my big four 80’s trash metal bands run down, I bloody love Anthrax so much! Here’s my faves by them…

Gung Ho – Spreading the Disease (1985)

Caught in a Mosh –  Among the Living (1987)

I’m the Man – I’m the Man EP (1987)

Got the Time – Persistence of Time (1990)

Pubic Enemy & AnthraxBring the Noise – Attack of the Killer B’s (1991)

Only – Sound of White Noise (1993)

1000 Points of Hate – Sound of White Noise (1993)

Black Lodge – Sound of White Noise (1993)

Riding Shotgun – Stomp 442 (1995)

Celebrated Summer – Fueled EP (1996)

Pretty much just a little over ten years in ten songs for my all time faves by them, I dig their 90’s way more than the 80’s too. Covers glory here, ending with a Hüsker Dü cover which more a B-side but then the 1990 Got The Time track is Joe Jackson cover but was lead single with promo video clip and all from that album. Getting to work with Public Enemy in the early 90’s to re-work their late 80’s song and then the 1987 I’m A Man is just plain ripping of Beastie Boys old song too but it’s so much fun I can’t help but love it. I’ve got five tracks with lead vocalist John Bush from 1993 to sometime after he was their singer and he did wrote some of the best lyrics for the band too, Sound of White Noise album is most def the one I would name as the bands’ best but maybe is less metal as well. Black Lodge is co-wrote by Angelo Badalamenti who was the Twin Peaks TV show composer and does even guested feature him playing keyboards as well. Oh, also Dimebag Darrell from Pantera guest as lead guitar player on Riding Shotgun so they really don’t mind collaboration or a few too!

I think, after all these metal bands I should do some punks next few weeks, OK?

  1. I love Anthrax. I had forgotten quite how much I love Anthrax. I really love them. Marvellous list. Some really great choices here. I’d have had a bit more State of Euphoria personally. They did do good covers too.
