More abstract art today, the first art post of March 2019 and we are going back to the 50’s again with I think a very under-rated artist/painter of 20th century. I think, she should be a household like some other artists that everyone could name from that time but is not! Once again back to another dead visual artist too. Her artwork easy fits in with almost styles or moments of that time your can possible name. I dislike labels really so I will not even bother to type them all out here in this post but if you’ve looked/read about 20th century art at some point in you life or just gone to an art gallery once in your life, I’ll know even if you think you don’t?
Vieira da Silva was born in 1908 and died in 1992 so almost all of the last century. She was born in Lisbon, Portugal after spending most of her 1940’s or WWII years in Brazil return to Euro but as with a lot of artists all roads lead to France, became a citizen in the mid-50’s and passing away in Paris at age 83.
All paintings below are oil on canvas. I’ll leave you now in peace and quite to look at her work in wonder!

So the song of today to go with her paintings: I’m going to go with 2017’s Sun Kil Moon’s I Love Portugal but the Acoustic Version from Mark Kozelek’s Night Talks EP because the album version isn’t on youtube but it’s a great track however he plays it, enjoy!
Cheers 🙂
That song is great!! And I really love what painters were accomplishing in the 1950s. Her art is new to me, though.

Yet again and again I’m so glad you digging all this stuff I’m posting ATM! That’s the 1st post on Maria because the art posts are a pretty new thing on my blog but more to come on her but you could have google her already? Mark’s an all-time fave singer/songwriter and blog him before just little bit, he’s America does solo, collaborative albums and work under the name Sun Kil Moon and back in the 90’s his band was Red House Painting, that song only a couple of years old now! From a double album he did mainly with ex-Sonic Youth drummer!
Cheers 🙂

I was able to stream some of Mark’s music yesterday. The album What’s Next to the Moon— I think that was it? I like his singing a lot and his songs are very interesting. He’s from Ohio! Which is where I’m from and where I’m living again right now. Thanks again. I am enjoying it. 😊
