I’ll be useless to intro him, Marvin Gaye! I never really know, you know? Who likes or enjoys what or which artists/acts? Some bloggers/followers I’ve got to know over whatever time it’s been? Lately I’ve been pretty shit commenting on others blogs so if that’s how it works it’s amazing anyone still does here, I know I can be a pretty shit friend sometimes or is that most of the time? So just google him if you have no idea who he is? Below I’ve got something from each of Marvin’s three decades he was living and working/recording which are maybe, might be a little too greatest hits? Oh well!
My fave TTT of MG in order of release dates are these:
Ain’t That Peculiar – Moods of Marvin Gaye (1965)
It Takes Two (Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston duet) – Takes Two (1966)
This Magic Moment – M.P.G. (1969)
Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) – What’s Going On (1971)
Trouble Man – Trouble Man (1972)
Let’s Get It On – Let’s Get It On (1973)
I Want You – I Want You (1976)
When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You – Here My Dear (1978)
A Funky Space Reincarnation – Here, My Dear (1978)
Sexual Healing – Midnight Love (1982)
That’s the years 1965 to 82 with three 60’s, one 80’s but six 70’s winning this weekend plus it’s 78’s album Here, My Dear which has two cuts lifted from it! Can I call it today, the greatest break-up album ever? Most likely tick-off someone else who thinks it’s Dylan, Sinatra, even Cave etc. who ever else made a let’s get divorce (album)? Just my opinion I guess should say and off course that’s my fave of all Gaye’s albums!
I think Sexual Healing was the first track I heard or at least payed him sometime and wanted to hear what else he did/done? Remember finding-out the horror story of the end of his life so I guess never knew a time when he was alive in my little lifetime like when he was a Motown Soul music king with Stevie Wonder, Dina Ross etc. I think my all-time fave track of his is A Funky Space Reincarnation which is also the most up-beat cut on that very sad album plus it’s the longest song above too! I’ve skipped the songwriters this weekend, Marvin did write a lot of them but not all of them but I can’t be bother to double check, right now? Sorry!
Once again, I’m changing styles of music next weekend to another one not yet covered in my TTT’s posts!
Who’s going to share your own fave/s by him?
