A to Z: H is for…

A to Z: H is for…

Well, it could easy be HTRK today but I’ve banged on about them a bit later so got with another fave member of a band, maybe not the biggest Aussie band ever but very important: The Birthday Party! This A to Z thing is really just turn into name some of my music hero’s and “H” is greatest guitar player ever and one of my fave singer-songwriter too! That’s Rowland S. Howard and off course, was over shadowed just a lot by that other guy, I don’t need to name him today! Howard was never as prolific as that other guy but each of his few and far between albums after The Birthday Party were perfect in my mind. The greatest two he saved for last and were his only solo albums. Even with kidney failure he keep going until the end, last song on last album entitled Pop Crimes was the epic The Golden Age Of Bloodshed

That’s one letter off, here’s Hamlet (Pow Pow Pow) which is right:

5 “H” songs today are…

Heartwork by Carcass (1993):

Higgle-dy Piggle-dy by The Monks (1966):

Heroin by The Velvet Underground (1967):

Human Jukebox by Scientists (1987):

Ha by HTRK (2009):

BTW that’s the debut album Marry Me Tonight by them which was co-produced byΒ  Howard and he’s guesting on lead guitar on that song just above too!

Very quickly 3 “H” books…

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (2000)

Hunger byΒ Knut HamsunΒ (1890)

Hand to Mouth by Paul Auster (1998)

Very quickly 3 “H” films…

The Hangover (2009) director: Todd Phillips, stars: Zach Galifianakis

The Hurt Locker (2008) director: Kathryn Bigelow, stars: Jeremy Renner

A History of Violence (2005) director: David Cronenberg, stars: Viggo Mortensen

So that’s 4 A-Z posts this week, I might get this done quicker that I was thinking? They’re a better shorter or does someone out like my long posts?

But if we want to nominate the greatest Australian guitarist – and we are searching for an β€˜H’ …. then Ross Hannaford wins every time.

And, I should add, every personal contemplation of suicide has been thwarted by the fact that it really doesn’t suit my style.

Always pick up some good stuff from your stuff. i try to give the cuts a good listen. I’m digging Howard a lot. Will putb him down for more time. The Young Gods also. ‘History Of Violence’ is a good one.

Well, I'm dyslexic so writing about something I love: Music, might help but it's most likely just full of mistakes. That title is also lyrics from The Drones song called I Don't Want To Change. Oh, my name is William and thanks for having a look.
