1001 Albums Book: 2009

Here’s the next year done and dusted at almost the start of Feb. this Monday morning but it’s a really short one today with only four albums of this year this book/list recommends! Off course at the top of this post is my own yearly playlist, right now of 35 songs! Tell me what you think of those, if you press play? Maybe, the real reason and why now I’ve keep doing these posts? Is I’m just re-posting my update playlist of each year! That playlist was only posted late last year sometime, linked here and mainly added are few oversea acts songs, some Aussies on a couple of tracks that amazingly I missed out the first round and three are cover songs and ending with three of the four 1001 because one was already on my list! Yeah, I will sooner or later make a start on my 2010’s yearly playlist too!

Anyway to get on with what this book tell me and you are next four albums you must hear before you die:

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts finally listen to them but remember their name because they were very hyped at the time so maybe, I could have heard them? They’re nice but even if I didn’t know they were English, they sound so bloody English! Adding track We Still Got The Taste Dancin’ On Our Tongues video clip because it’s very sweet as the second last on playlist.

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective I own this and the next album, both on CD. Both also played live at the second last Big Day Out fest here in Oz, I got to see AC played on a side stage while the Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined the main stage, if I remember right? Adding song/video clip of My Girls as third last on playlist.

It’s Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs I’m pretty sure both of these acts were touring their next albums or YYY might not have their new one out just yet but due in a month or two at the time or something? A couple of years ago I did a blog post about this album which might as well be linked here. The song/video Heads Will Roll is track number 19 on playlist.

xx by The xx all four of these 1001 albums were huge at the time and I tried to get into this one but I guess, I failed. As close as I got was Jamie xx remixed Gil Scott-Heron album but I have added song Heart Skipped A Beat as the last on playlist.

What do you think about that? Is your fave album of 2009 one of them? Or is missing? So what it is? I think, if were to name my own four best or fave albums of this year it would be something like: Marry Me Tonight by HTRK, Pop Crimes by Rowland S. Howard, Sometime I Wish We Were An Eagle by Bill Callahan and Self-titled by Fever Ray. What’s your’s then? Also anything you think I should add to my playlist above too?

Merriweather Post Pavilion is featured image today because It’s Blitz! has already been used and explaining what that means: I’ve try not to use the same image twice as the feature but I don’t really have a reason at all!

So now the only number something nine years in this book I’ve not done yet is 1999 and 1969, I’ll plan to do the late 90’s next, OK? Let’s see how long that takes me because it’s very huge list of albums! Or doesn’t anyone care and I can fuck about forever?

Cheers 🙂

  1. Geez….where do I even begin with this playlist William! It’s so good. I have a lot of memories attached to these songs, many I haven’t heard since they came out around then like the Eddy Current Suppression Ring right? Is that from Rush to Relax? I think I may have seen them that year at the Corner Hotel in Richmond, Melbourne but that period of my life is rather blurry so I couldn’t say for sure.

It’s Blitz by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs also holds a lot of memories of Melboure for me, shit…2009 was a hectic year for me and thanks for bringing me back to it. I love these lists of yours they are like taking a time warp back to a time and place. Take care and I hope you are having a great week William 🙂

      1. I would love to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs if they ever did a come back tour. I think they would be amazing live, their music is made for a live audience really. You too mate, have an awesome week too. Here in NZ it’s a short week as today is a public holiday so just hanging out in the sun. 🙂
