Song of the Day: All The Gold In California by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

It’s yet more Cave today again, which did skip this one too last year but as you can see/hear I’m going to included this cover song they did for a soundtrack in mid 2010’s. Recorded for the second season of True Detective, used in the closing credits for episode one or two or which one was it? Can be found now on the 2015 various artists True Detective (Music From The HBO Series) soundtrack album. So according to liner notes the rest of the band because it’s way more band song than duo movie score. It’s T-Bone Burnett on guitar who’s the True Detective comp album producer and music supervisor to the TV show. Session drummer Jay Bellerose and Gabe Witcher on bass, if anyone else care’s who’s playing with the Bad Seeds duo? Also co-producer by Nick Lauray who was doing all NC’s Bad Seeds/Grinderman studio albums since 2003 but this seems like to be one of last project with them, after his minor role on 2016’s Skeleton Tree he’s been missing from all albums credits, you know? It’s an old C&W 70’s song written by Larry Gatlin and was originally done by Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers Band in 1979:

Lyrics to All The Gold In California are:

All the gold in California
Is in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills
In somebody else’s name
So if you’re dreamin’ about California
It don’t matter at all where you’ve played before
California’s a brand-new game
Tryin’ to be a hero, winding up a zero
Can scar a man forever right down to your soul
Living on the spotlight can kill a man outright
‘Cause everything that glitters is not gold
And all the gold in California
Is in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills
In somebody else’s name
So if you’re dreamin’ about California
It don’t matter at all where you’ve played before
California’s a brand-new game
All the gold in California
Is in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills
In somebody else’s name
So if you’re dreamin’ about California
It don’t matter at all where you’ve played before
California’s a brand-new game
A brand-new game

It’s laughing WE (left) and NC (right) in 2010’s!

Cheers! 🙂
