Song of the Day: Amber Waves by Tori Amos

OK, today for this Sunday morning after however long it is since my last SOTD post, a week or something? Anyway this now is the second Tori track to be included in all my SOFD posts, you know? Also maybe, I’m repeating myself because both Amos’ songs so far, do have a color theme in both the song titles. Who knows if you or anyone out there remember? But last year I’d posted Agent Orange which I guess, the color word comes second but some peeps might even say “orange” and “amber” are the same thing plus Tori Amos herself is a redhead so could be that’s like a triple snap or something? Then Amber Waves song is the opening track the 2002 album entitled Scarlet’s Walk which it’s now maybe, getting a bit silly or something? Anyway let’s get away for that so I’ll tell you this song named after Julianne Moore’s character in the movie called Boogie Nights of 1997. Yeah, I know kind-of yet another redhead so I can’t get away from the color thingy! It’s been a long while seeing that film for me, can’t really remember it at all so how about you? Do you know that film? When was the last time you seen it? What about today’s song itself, have you heard/know it? I think, Scarlet’s Walk would be one of my most favorite TA albums, last time I was blogging about Agent Orange track which is from her 96’s Boys For Pele album which would be my top all-time number one LP but let’s call Scarlet’s Walk album as the runner-up, that sounds right for me! What about you what’s your fave Tori Amos album/s? Below I’ve included the full lyrics which I’ve not done that, you know? Included the lyrics for a while but then again, I’ve not been blogging very good lately anyway! Let’s just finish and leave it at that for now, here are the Amber Waves words plus ending with you can stream the whole Scarlet’s Walk:

Well, he lit you up like Amber Waves in his movie show
He fixed you up real good till I don’t know you any more
From ballet class to a lap dance straight to video
And the pool side news was that he would be launching you
Into every young man’s bedroom, you gave it up
On DVD and magazine, you gave it up
A private rite of passage, you gave it up
To every boy’s sweet dream with their paper cuts
You said, “He’s got a healing machine
It glows in the dark, glows in the dark”
You say, “There’s not a lot of me
Left any more, just leave it alone
But if you’re by and you have the time
Tell the Northern Lights to keep shining
Lately it seems like they’re drowning”
He could light you up and summon every swan to the lakeside
Off to Cabo San Lucas for some optical stimulus
Then you started to guess there was someone else though his flint glass
Seeing all of you immersed in his sepia
Into every young man’s bedroom, you gave it up
On DVD and magazine, you gave it up
A private rite of passage, you gave it up
To every boy’s sweet dream with their paper cuts
You said, “He’s got a healing machine
It glows in the dark, glows in the dark”
You say, “There’s not a lot of me
Left any more, just leave it alone
But if you’re by and you have the time
Tell the Northern Lights to keep shining
Oh, lately it seems like they’re drowning”
So I went by ’cause I had the time
Told the Northern Lights to keep shining
They told me to tell you they’re waving

It’s Julianne Moore as Amber Waves in Boogie Nights movie!

Cheers! 🙂
