OK, it’s the next updated yearly playlist for anyone who wants to check it out today for your Sunday morning? It’s 120 songs yet again from this year! Once again it’s starting in Australia or Aussie acts kicking it off! This time getting to 41 from Oz plus a few from the Kiwi neighbors, adding up to 45 before getting to the rest of the world’s songs/video clips!
Saying Bad Light by The Paradise Motel is the best/my fave video clip of 96 so moving it to opening track, I think I would say that album which it’s from debut album entitled Still Life and is one of my all-time fave which is an under-rated gem. But the album itself wasn’t released until 1997 but the Bad Light EP was put out in 96, you know? Also for oversea their album has totally different name, track list and record label calling it Left Over Life to Kill for the UK release, which just be confusing that was the same name of an Aussie EP put out earlier. That’s a bit about the opening song/band, if you never heard of them?
Got a few artists as doubles this year too because a lot of artists I dig dropped albums themselves then we’re also included on mainly various artists soundtrack mostly playing covers tooo. Pointing out the Aussie soundtrack called Idiot Box and X Files soundtrack entitled Song In The Key Of X as couple of the main offenders. Other artists with more than one song with three actually: I’ve got Jarvis Cocker who pop ups three times but Pulp didn’t even have an album that year, it’s a Trainspotting soundtrack track, singing lead vox for Barry Adamson and then that wonderful duet with Lush. Tricky had one album, another under the name Nearly God plus he did that Garbage remix. Nick Cave had his Murder Ballads album, a hidden song with Dirty Three on X Files thingo was in my opinion one of his greatest tracks which most didn’t hear at the time because you had to rewind a CD plus then on Current 93 album he’s singing an old children’s lullaby. So those Aussie acts having both originals and then covers are Magic Dirt, The Mark of Cain, You Am I and The Blackeyed Susans. Also it’s Cat Power who released a couple of her earliest albums at this point so she has a cover and original toooo. Patti Smith had her own album out plus sung on R.E.M. one also William S. Burroughs does kind-of re-does the lead vox with them on the X Files thingy but could be considered a cover. So I think? That’s all the the doubles and triples in this playlist but my little rule was suppose to be only one song per artist per yearly playlist but because I couldn’t help myself so I had to break it because of all those reasons, OK?
Oh yeah, I better say like the last few times in these posts I named my fave/the best album of each year so, this time I’ll say it’s Dirty Three’s Horse Stories which Sue’s Last Ride is five songs in. Also saying runner-up and should go oversea for that, let’s say Roots by Sepultura from Brazil so their video from Ratamahatta is at number 46, where the rest of the world starts. I could gibber on and on about all or a lot these other tracks way more, you know? But wouldn’t and save whoever looking/listening at this! If you do wanna say something, like your own fave songs/albums/video clips of 96, please do in the comments bit far below because love to know, if anyone out there wants to share? Edit adding a line each for:

End note: one more time, do I need to tell you again? But because it’s been 4/5 weeks since the last post like this so I’ll repeat myself again! It’s yet another favorite movie of mine as today’s featured image. For 1996 amazedly it’s an Aussie film which this time is the first time while revisiting these yearly playlist posts, maybe should really included way more Aussie movies pics? It’s called Love Serenade which was directed by Shirley Barrett, does anyone out there remember it? Check it out if you can find it somewhere?

Cheers! 🙂
