Song of the Day: Amen by Leonard Cohen + updated SOTD Playlist

Tell me again
When I’ve been to the river
And I’ve taken the edge off my thirst
Tell me again
We’re alone and I’m listening
I’m listening so hard that it hurts
Tell me again
When I’m clean and I’m sober
Tell me again
When I’ve seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you want me then
Amen
Amen
Amen
Amen
Tell me again
When the victims are singing
And the laws of remorse are restored
Tell me again
That you know what I’m thinking
But vengeance belongs to the Lord
Tell me again
When I’m clean and I’m sober
Tell me again
When I’ve seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you love me then
Amen
Amen
Amen
Amen
Tell me again
When the day has been ransomed
And the night has no right to begin
Try me again
When the angels are panting
And scratching at the door to come in
Tell me again
When I’m clean and I’m sober
Tell me again
When I’ve seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you need me then
Amen
Amen
Amen
Amen
Tell me again
When the filth of the butcher
Is washed in the blood of the lamb
Tell me again
When the rest of the culture
Has passed through the eye of the camp
Tell me again
When I’m clean and I’m sober
Tell me again
When I’ve seen through the horror
Tell me again
Tell me over and over
Tell me that you love me then
Amen
Amen
Amen
Amen

It’s now three day’s back-to-back-to-back blog posting, having done that for a long while! Seems I’m putting the embedded song followed by the lyrics then the album it’s from which is Old Ideas of 2012, as the pile of thingos to kick of this very, very long post! So it’s got an insane amount of music in today’s post for your Friday morning!

What can I tell you about LC today because it’s NOT the first time blogging about him? I got to finally see him live on this tour! In Nov. 2013 Perth W.A. was opening date on the Aussie/Kiwi Old Ideas tour leg which that ended up being his final shows so his last ever gig was in Auckland N.Z. you know? That sounds like it should really get another whole blog post all about it! So cutting that story a bit short because I’m going on with…

Today’s extra special bonus thingy, the letter “A” (so far) SOTD playlist:

That’s a fully updated/edited letter “A” SOTD playlist is just above! So that’s all the WOW-WEEEEE songs I’ve blogged since starting this ridiculous project all in one place! I did link the tag in the very last post to all the old bloody posts so you can read all the shit I’ve been saying, if you open each single post but if you, me or anyone out there just wanna press play once and listen to a lot and I really, really mean a lot of tracks starting with the letter “A”? It’s well over 100 songs right now, adding up today of grand total of 151 so we can have a party to celebrate a bit, if you wanna? I’ve listened to it a few times myself but the stats on YouTube tells me it’s only had 1 views overall so I don’t know how right that is? Does that mean I’m the only one listening to it? I might NOT count because I made it, I don’t know how that really works? So you can’t say or it’s isn’t been a very popular playlist at all but maybe someone might need something to listen today or this weekend or something? If you were the someone else, the one viewer who listened to it last time I posted it, I should give you a prize or something? Anyone out there who does have a listens? Why NOT tell me what song/s you dig the very most or something? So yeah, I have posted this playlist before but seems like a longtime ago! Maybe, you’re new here to my little blog or totally missed it last time? Does anyone even remember it, if almost no one listen to it? I don’t know why I bother really! BTW some songs I’ve blogged about are totally missing on YouTube but it’s really few and far between. Off course, all this means I’m NOT been updating my next 90’s yearly playlist so sorry, anyone who wants the next one, that’s going to a bit longer wait! But here’s all the letter “A” songs of the day tracks in an epic huge playlist! NOT that anyone asked for it or ask for anything I blog about? The huge 151 track listing should be as follows plus the songs with the little * on the end aren’t on YouTube which are linked back to my older posts about them, OK?

So after over 150 SOTD posts, the complete grand total including SOTD that aren’t on YouTube is 159! If I can count right? So after all that, Nick Cave is easy the top artist overall, who pops up with his Bad Seeds, Warren Ellis, Toff Monks, The Boys Next Door and Current 93. After that, I think possible next is Lenny Cohen who has already had a few posts to himself. Maybe, that’s why I picked this painting to use today?

Today’s featured image is a painting by Ben Smith, it’s title/mediums is: The Influence-Leonard Cohen consoles Nick Cave, oil on board.

Cheers! 🙂

  1. One of the best songs ever!! Alexandra Leaving by Leonard Cohen

These caught my eye as more great ones:.
The Adversary by Crime & the City Solution
Ain’t No Cure For Love by Leonard Cohen
    Abfackeln! by Einstürzende Neubauten
Acrid Avid Jam Shred by Aphex Twin
    Albatross by Public Image Ltd.
Amphetamine Logic by The Sisters Of Mercy

You have “Always” by Magic Dir. Shouldn’t that be Magic Dirt? 🙂
and you left out “Always” by Leonard Cohen

And, though not in your “A” list, the song “Never Any Good by LC has some of the best lyrics ever:
“…I was pretty good at taking out the garbage
Pretty good at holding up the wall
Dealing with the fire and the earthquake
    But that don’t count
That don’t count for nothing much at all
I was never any good at loving you
I was just some kind of tourist in your bed looking at the view
But I can’t forget where my lips have been
Those holy hills, that deep ravine
    I was never any good
    Never any good
I was never any good at loving you…”

    1. Hey Stan, so glad you dig those ones, they’re wicked great tracks and oh yeah, Cohen is the greatest!
Thank for pointing out my typo, i check those things but miss them sometimes, “Always” was a funny one, if i remember i did a huge pile of songs as extras after Magic Dirt’s opening featuring track? Oh yeah, here it is: https://a1000mistakes.wordpress.com/2021/06/04/song-of-the-day-always-by-magic-dirt/ with seven bonus tracks, thinking about that now, i really should have giving all those songs each a post to themselves but didn’t at the time, i don’t know why?
Yeah again, LC is the wickedest greatest lyricist ever, bloody amazing songwriting!
      Cheers mate 🙂

People just can’t be arsed to push the finger. Finger to them too. Please don’t stop cos you think you’re alone in there. You’re the tops!

    1. Cheers again lizziesox, thanks for the very positive nice words so you’re the tops tooooo!
Well you kind-of know by looking at the posts but after not totally stopping but only posting few and far between in last few months i seem to be getting back into it now, at least for the last 3 days! Oh well, peeps are busy and everything, maybe 150 songs is a bit tooo much for most? But I’ve enjoy it myself! See if you have time? love to know if or when you press play on that playlist, please let me know what you dig the very most or whatever? But if don’t get around to it or don’t get the whole thing done, that’s fine as well because it’s very, very bloody long!
Oh yeah, LC is the very best tooooooooooooooo!
      Cheers 🙂

      1. Hi William, One problem I have is I’m really bad at navigation. In real life I have absolutely no compass and it would seem so on the internet as well. Not sure if on the internet it’s because I totally get distracted by other links. Anyway, my point is where do I find this famous 150 song list. because I will listen to it end to end as I tend to be obsessive. If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks.

For some reason email version removes all the embedded content and kind-of reformat it! Please just come over to the blog itself if you what to listen to anything I’m talking about because I always try to included in the blog post itself, OK? Hope you enjoy it! Cheers 🙂

  3. 151 songs is a lot to expect anyone to listen to. As you point out, it’s a challenge to get people to press play for even one song, let alone read our blog posts. That said it’s an impressive playlist William, and I’m listening.

    1. Oh well, hope enjoy it! Any new 2 you or old 2 you ones you that you dug the very most? Or should I ask just how far did you get? I guess, that’s pretty right and you sum-up it very well but mainly I guess, I really do them for myself, if anyone else listens it’s a bonus or something? But those year playlists seem to be more popular or it says they have more views! Anyway hope you’ve had or having good weekend and cheers mate 🙂
