The Old’s Old Records: Rickie Lee Jones’ Girl At Her Volcano, Them/Van Morrison comp, Iron Butterfly’s In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida & Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors

Easter Sunday morning, it’s part three today of my parents old albums! We get yet another overblown hippie thing, a couple of female singers in the 80’s each doing their own thing and young Van the man doing his white-boy blues thing with his old band! To go with my post it’s newest part ten of vinyl days up on Bitchfork by Keelin linked here too! She’s even re-posted my last couple which she didn’t have too do so now I feel bad for not just re-posting all ten! Should I being going back and re-posting them all? Starting with In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly which is totally pure hippie insanity! The title track fills the whole second side of this record, it’s a great riff but it goes a bit too long, it’s 17 mins:

So I’m including a cover of the song by Slayer who does cut it all down to just three minutes and just my opinion, it’s much better but I could be wrong off course?

Them featuring Van Morrison is a just 1982 comp album or that’s the copyright date on it, with band and singer’s names both in bright red bold caps lock and very young looking band all together in suits on the front cover looking very early 60’s. So it doesn’t say greatest hits or anything on the front cover but it includes all of them. I think, I’m going with I Put A Spell On You which wrote by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins also was covered by just about everyone:

  Rickie Lee Jones‘ Girl At Her Volcano which I guess, she’s not as well remembered as some other female singer-songwriters of the 70’s but this is her 1983 mini-album and it’s pretty great listening which I’m calling it the best one of this little pile today. Here’s Rainbow Sleeves which was written by Tom Waits and recorded back in 1978:

Cyndi Lauper‘s True Colors is finishing off today and it’s her 1986 album which is the not as great but the follower up album to her wicked debut She’s So Unusual of 1983. The title track is epic great and is the best song easy:

Iron Butterfly featured image today and I think, it really doesn’t get any more hippie that this one?
