I guess, it might not be everybody’s cup of tea? But I really liked/loved U2’s 90’s stuff! Well, to me those early 90’s albums of Achtung Baby of 1991 and Zooropa of 1993 are both really their greatest albums but not so much the late 90’s album called Pop of 1997. So I’ll say that again, the couple of early 90’s U2 album I really love! Off course, they will always be most well remember for all their big 80’s hits and huge albums of that early time. That first 90’s album did have a couple or more hit singles, didn’t it? The hits dry up after this and I don’t think the next couple even had one between the two of them so wasn’t until year 2000 until their had another real hit single.
Anyway this song I’m suppose to be talking about is just a boring old album track, listed at second last song on that first 90’s album. Say that again, the song entitled Acrobat was track number eleven on Achtung Baby. I think, it’s very cool song which I think, I enjoy all the non-singles on this album much more than all the singles but nothing wrong with them just maybe over played at the time so I go for all the album tracks more, you know? So can I ask you? What’s your fave 90’s U2 track/s? The big singles or something else? So I found that fan made video clip which is footage of them in early 90’s, mainly them playing live in big stadiums. Here are the Acrobat lyrics:
Don’t believe what you hear
Don’t believe what you see
If you just close your eyes
You can feel the enemy
When I first met you girl
You had fire in your soul
What happened your face
Of melting in snow
Now it looks like this
And you can swallow
Or you can spit
You can throw it up
Or choke on it
And you can dream
So dream out loud
You know that your time is coming ’round
So don’t let the bastards grind you down
No, nothing makes sense
Nothing seems to fit
I know you’d hit out
If you only knew who to hit
And I’d join the movement
If there was one I could believe in
Yeah I’d break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in
‘Cause I need it now
To take a cup
To fill it up
To drink it slow
I can’t let you go
I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that
And you can dream
So dream out loud
And don’t let the bastards grind you down
Oh, it hurts baby
(What are we going to do now it’s all been said)
(No new ideas in the house and every book has been read)
And I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that
And you can dream
So dream out loud
And you can find
Your own way out
You can build
And I can will
And you can call
I can’t wait until
You can stash
And you can seize
In dreams begin
Responsibilities
And I can love
And I can love
And I know that the tide is turning ’round
So don’t let the bastards grind you down

Cheers! 🙂
Always loved this U2 track William. Great urgency to the vocals, and the words felt like they came from the heart. Cheers for the reminder!
