Song of the Day: American Music by Violent Femmes

Song of the Day: American Music by Violent Femmes

The ultimate number one greatest “American” song of all-time just has to be Violent Femmes’ American Music:

Do you like American music?
I like American music.
Don’t you like American music, baby?
I want you to hold me, I want your arms around me.
I want you to hold me, baby…
Did you do too many drugs? I did too many drugs.
Did you do too many drugs, too, baby?
You were born too late, I was born too soon,
But every time I look at that ugly moon, it reminds me of you.
It reminds me of you… ooh-ooh-ooh.
I need a date to the prom, would you like to come along?
But nobody would go to the prom with me, baby…
They didn’t like American music, they never heard American music.
They didn’t know the music was in my soul, baby…
You were born too soon, I was born too late,
But every time I look at that ugly lake, it reminds me of me.
It reminds me of me…
Do you like American music? We like American music.
I like American music… Baby.
Do you like American music? We like all kinds of music.
But I like American music best… baby.
You were born too late, and I was born too late,
But every time I look at that ugly lake,
It reminds me of me…
It reminds me of me
It reminds me of me
Do you like american music
It reminds me of me
Do you like american music
It reminds me of me
Do you like american music
It reminds me of me
I like american music
It reminds me of me
She like american music
It reminds me of me
I like american music
It reminds me of me
She like american music
It reminds me of me
I like american music
It reminds me of me
She like american music
It reminds me of me
I like american music
It reminds me of me
She like american music
It reminds me of me
I like american music
It reminds me of me
She like american music
It reminds me of me

For me at least, it was the very first thing I was thinking about as soon as I got to the word “America/American” in my SOTD posts but saving it to very last one! I think, everyone should love or at least know the band Violent Femmes? Do you or NOT? They’re very popular and at least since making my little comeback on these SOTDs, it’s got to be the most well-known song I’ve posted or don’t you know it at all? I’ll skip telling you all about them, if you really don’t know nothing about the Violent Femmes or just want to be reminded? Here’s their Wikipedia page linked here. They’re yet another killer live band I’ve seen, have you seen them live? Last time seeing them was at a big festival which I did blog about somewhere in the dark depths of my blog!

So it’s already time to move on to something else next on SOTD but please any “America/American” song/s you can think offfff I’ve NOT posted in these last five posts, wanna share anything? My little “America/American” top five which wasn’t really numbered was:

Below should be VF’s fifth album entitled Why Do Birds Sing? embedded, opening with today’s featured track:

B&W VF, it’s Gordon Gano (front & middle), Brian Ritchie (right & smoking) and Victor DeLorenzo (left in sunglasses).

Cheers! 🙂

I do very much love this track. I saw the Femmes a few years ago when they were touring and playing their debut album in full. Excellent show that was.

Well, I'm dyslexic so writing about something I love: Music, might help but it's most likely just full of mistakes. That title is also lyrics from The Drones song called I Don't Want To Change. Oh, my name is William and thanks for having a look.
